I’ve noticed that life will always have its UPS and DOWNS. There is never going to be a time when what feels like perfect or great stays that way for long. Things will and are going to happen that will challenge your comfort, your security, even your sanity. Especially, in the world we are in today.

At any given moment a single event can cause havoc that can and will turn your world upside down. For example, tens of thousands of individuals are instantly becoming unemployed by no fault of their own. Each and every day someone is given bad news of a life changing medical condition. Every single day a family suffers the loss of a loved one. Every single day brings its challenges.

For “Returning Citizens” there are no exceptions, as a matter of fact I would suggest there is an added burden. That extra layer that automatic challenge that comes with a criminal record. That tag that puts you under a microscope when applying for a job. When seeking housing. And for certain offenses denying funding for higher education. Additionally, the returning citizens are the first to be profiled for a crime by law enforcement. Forever labeled a criminal, felon, an ex-con. The fact that you served your time and paid your dues to society seem to have no meaning.

Don’t and I mean DO NOT fall into a defeated spirit of despair, or depression. Don’t allow what others think of you determine your happiness nor your success. Stay on your square. What I mean by this is, don’t allow life challenges to deter you from being the person you were meant to be or you want to be. Keep moving forward! Remember life is and will always present challenges. That’s true whether you are a returning citizen or not. It is up to YOU what the outcome will look like by how YOU handle the situation. Stay focus and stay on your square.
